I am conducting an experiment in which I will try not to sleep for as long as possible. What are the day by day effects? If you could give me a blow by blow account of the effects that would be super. I just wanna know what to expect.

  1. the "experiment" your doing is potentially dangerous, you can actually stay alive longer without food, than without sleep.

i was depressed a year ago and purposely did sleep deprivation on myself. its weird....i kept listening to sort of weird slow music with no lyrics, and after a while you can't even hear the music anymore.

you completely loose concentration, and your mind begins to sort of race and slow down at the same time.

like a month ago i had a exam that really had to study for and just COULDN'T sleep,

and there was like a small piece of black thread on my bed, and i just completely lost control, took out my slippers and started hitting it with my slippers, thinking it would hurt me??! it was weird, like i couldn't stop doing it.

plus weak hallucinations will happen, like when i used to go out for walks without sleep, i sort of saw lights disappearing though some gates or something...its weird.

don't try it though, not cool

  2. ok well if your going to do this experiment it is possibly quite dangerous, so have someone with you at all times and don't do anything that requires too much concentration during that time (eg. driving cooking)

the first thing you will notice is your fatigue on the first morning without sleep. your body will start feeling a bit heavy towards the end of the day and your concentration will start to slip that night your body will be craving sleep, but don't take too much caffeine as this can really damage some of your internal organs

on the second morning you will feel like you cant concentrate and you wont feel like doing any activities that require exercise or any significant effort, you may start to experience headaches as well at this stage

by the third and fourth morning this symptoms will start to become more severe and you might start feeling dizzy during the day

between the fifth and seventh day you wont be able to concentrate on anything, your body will not allow you to do much physical activities, when you stand up you will feel dizzy and your head will spin and you will be desperately craving sleep and there may be severe headaches and migraines involved

the longer your experiment goes on the worse these symptoms will get and you will feel worse and worse

i really don't recommend trying it, it will make you feel terrible and could even be dangerous to your health

  3. stop that , it's hazardous!

  4. Well I would imagine you would get tired.

    That's about all I know.

    Sorry bud. :D

  5. Generally you can't die from lack of sleep but will feel like you are dying. The hallucinations can cause permanent physiological scars which you will never fully recover If it doesn't cause severer brain damage.

  6. I'm sorry, but I haven't really got an exact answer for you. But for the past three weeks I've slept for 4 - 5 hours every night... after a while it will  begin to catch up with you. You might not feel tired, but you won't be able to concentrate too well on anything, or for long amounts of time. Sometimes I find myself sitting somewhere staring at nothing in particular... or doing things out of character, such as cleaning out my computer. It's really strange. I also see things move. Have fun.
