I recently started taking Effexor. I was previously on lexapro and it did nothing for me. Has anyone had any weird side effects from the effexor? It has affected my appetite in that i'm not hungry as much. But when I am hungry the thought of putting food into my mouth makes me gag. I've also been having headaches, shakes occasionaly and a hard time falling asleep. This past weekend I made the mistake of taking the medicine a few hours after I normally do and almost passed out. If anyone can share their experiences it would be agreat help thanks!!

  1. it made me feel suicidal. i was feeling crazy and just not myself

  2. It could be start-up reactions to the Effexor, Effexor side-effects, Lexapro withdrawal, or combinations of these.

    Doctor?

  3. What dosage are they starting you off at? 37.5 mg?

I had a somewhat similar experience when i started taking it. I was shakey and felt like i was going to pass out shortly after taking it. Same with the headaches and appetite thing.

That stuff went away within a week or 2 of starting at the 37.5 dosage for me. When I upped the dosage, I didn't have any problems with it either.

I also didn't get shakey, nauseated or light headed if i took it with milk or ate something with it.

Feel free to contact me if you like...

  4. A good website for medication side effects etc is rxlist.com. Basically, you get the whole doctor's version of everything that could possibly be a reaction.

  5. hey, I've been on effexor for almost a year now. I've found it does affect the appetite, and I lost a little weight, but not a whole lot. The appetite comes back after a while.  How long have you been on the effexor? What dose are you taking? I take 150mg/day, I started on 37.5 for a week, then moved up to 75 for a week, then to the 150mg. thet first month, I felt sick and shaky a lot, kind of like you're describing. I'd have moments when I'd feel really nauseous, but not actually get sick.

I found, for myself, taking it at night worked out to be the best. It made me drowsy enough to actually sleep, and the side effects always seemed to be worse the first few hours after taking the pill, so I would just sleep the night away after taking it, thus avoiding feeling sick.
