Question:

Egg Drop Experiment?

I have an egg drop experiment and I'm struggling for ideas. We have to create an egg protection device that when an egg is placed in it, it wont be cracked after a 5m drop (about 20 foot). There are many limitations though. Here are some:

The device must be built. No manufactured containers may be used eg; plastic jars or cardboard boxes.

The dimensions must be smaller than 20cm X 20cm X 20cm (or about half a foot)

Following can not be used AS MAIN COMPONENT:

polyester foam

rubber foam

bubble wrap

cotton wool

balloons

tissues

This is because the aim is to build an impact absorbing device to project the egg.

The following can not be used in the design:

Perishable items (like grass)

Flammable or unidentifies liquids

Parachutes

The device must not contain an egg when handed in. It will be placed there.

On top of that, it has to be creative, unique and light (under 100 grams).

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated (Best Answer).

  1. I tried a wheel in a box with a hole in top.  Then when it fell, the egg would spin round and round.  We couldn't use wood
