  1. Ive only ever dont egg and spoon race once on my TB and he has an awesome canter and is generally very easy to get into lol. I do however try and stand up, for the initial movement into the canter, i can than make the transition for the spoon (lol) a little less rough by weighing out my balance where it is needed. also try not to look at the egg, i know this is hard but look straight between the horses ears, its sorta the same rule as carrying a full cup of coffee! lol. hope this helps!

    **** luck!!!

  2. Well, you can ask if you're allowed to wear spurs so that you have an easier time telling the horse to canter.  Other than that, you're kinda out of luck.  Some horses go a lot easier than others.  You could work with him to find a cue that will make him canter automatically, but it's going to take more than one practice... like maybe you could stick your outside heel up into his side.  I've found that using the corner of your shoe into the side is a sharper cue than just squeezing or kicking.  Just experiment when you ride him next and see which things will bring him to the canter fastest.  You probably can't carry a crop and a spoon, so that's probably not an option.

  3. Try getting a small crop.
