  1. Oh just ignore it by now it won't make it

  2. Did you touch it? The egg? Mother birds wont take back eggs that have been touched by humans. and chances are if it fell and has not broken, the chick inside isnt going to reach its growth potential and may never hatch. Just because of lack of care from the mother.

  3. The mother probably threw the egg out because it was defected in some way. Nature does that.

  4. i agree with all the people's answers, but why dont you try to hatch the egg yourself.  Get the correct lights and try to hatch.  You will soon enough see for yourself if the egg is rotton or not, maby you can end up with a new pet in the house.

  5. Do nothing.  Don't worry about it.   It's part of nature.  Just leave it alone.  It's probably dead anyway.

If the nest was within reach, you could gently pick it up and set it back, but if it's up high, you will scare the parents by trying to climb the tree.  They may abandon the nest.

Just leave the egg, and the birds alone.  The hen will lay another egg to replace that one....

    edit***

One person suggested that you incubate the egg.  That's a very bad idea.   Do not take the egg, or attempt to hatch it.  It's illegal.  All native wild birds in the US and Canada, and most other developed countries, are protected by law.  Unless you have a specific wildlife license, you cannot tamper with nests, harass, harm, kill - or possess any bird (living or dead), egg, nest or even a feather.

No one may incubate eggs, or attempt to care for any native wild bird, except licensed wildlife rehabilitators or other licensed wildlife experts (like zoos).

Wild baby birds need more than that what you can provide.  Humans cannot teach them the skills that they will need to survive in the wild.  They must be taught by their parents.  If you take them away from their parents. you have already eliminated their chance of survival.  If the egg did hatch, the bird would either die because of improper care, or die when released into the wild with no knowledge of finding food, or evading predators.

No one is allowed to keep native wild birds as pets - EVER.
