I was at a sushi bar when I was presented with a piece of sushi. It was a egg I was told. A yellow square, with rice on bottom, wrapped in a band of seaweed.

Does anyone know what the name of it is?

and how is it made?

  1. You can order it just as egg sushi.  If you were to order just that- you'd get 2 pieces of what you described.  I don't really care for it.  The egg is weird because it's sweet-  and the egg is rubbery and cold.

  2. I think it's called Tamago sushi if I am not wrong.

    You just crack a few eggs, mix them up.  season it with salt and pepper if you want.

    Fry it in a frying pan, most professionals used a square frying pan but a round will do.

    Make sure you add the egg mixture in slowly as you'd want to make the omelet kinda thick.

    Flip it over in one piece onto the other side, let it cook until the omelet is firm and done

    Cut out into square or rectangular shapes

    Roll some sushi sticky rice in your hands into somewhat of an oblong ball.

    Place the square omelet on top of the rice

    Cut out a strip of seaweed sufficient to go around the egg and rice

    Wrap it around the egg and rice and put a dab of water at the end of the seaweed to secure the ends of the seaweed.

    (you might have to shape the rice as you go, make sure that the bottom of the rice is somewhat flat so that it can sit well on the plate.)

  3. Easy Tamagoyaki (egg sushi)

    Ingredients:

        * 4 eggs

        * 3 tbsps dashi soup stock

        * 2 tbsps sugar

    Preparation:

    Beat eggs in a bowl. Add dashi soup and sugar in the egg and mix well. Heat a frying pan on medium heat. *Preferably, use a square tamagoyaki pan. Oil the pan. Pour a scoop of egg mixture in the pan and spread over the surface. Cook it until half done and roll the egg toward the bottom side. Move the rolled egg to the top side. Oil the empty part of the pan and pour another scoop of egg mixture in the space and under the rolled egg. Cook it until half done and roll the egg again so that the omelet becomes thicker. Cook the omelet until done. If you are using a regular frying pan, shape tamagoyaki on bamboo mat. Cut tamagoyaki into 1-inch thick pieces.

    Makes 4 servings (2 tamagoyaki)

    add ant thing like you wold sushi

  6. What you had is known as Tamago sushi. It's essentially a square piece of an omelet, sometimes sweetened, on top of rice.
