Egor Gerasimov ousts Fedor Chervyakov in qualifiers – Siberia Cup 2012
Belarusian contender, Egor Gerasimov, downed the local challenger, Fedor Chervyakov, in straight sets at the Siberia Cup 2012 on Sunday. He nudged up a 6-3, 7-6(1) victory against the world number 1374 to power into the final qualifying round at this ATP
(Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Tyumen, Russia.
Seeded fourth in the qualifying competition, Gerasimov needed almost one and a half hour to outshine the Russian in their second meeting. The contestants last battled each other at a Future event in Kazakhstan and after bagging this match, the Belarusian
maintained his winning record and progressed into the final round of the qualifiers.
The 20-year-old made a convincing entry at this indoor hard court event. He got the critical break in the sixth game and jumped to a 5-2 lead. Gerasimov plucked his serve once again and clicked the opener with a 6-3 score line. He was never threatened with
any hindrance and cashed the lone break opportunity to inch towards his goal.  
Ranked 534th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Gerasimov maintained consistency in his game in the following set. He dusted away both breakpoints he came across but squandered all three break chances to take the set to a tie-breaker.
He went out of control in it and subsequently bagged the set with a 7-6(1) win.
The Belarusian youngster struck 12 aces to prevail. He spilled four double faults but clobbered a better first serve share of 69 per cent as compared to his rival’s 53 per cent. Gerasimov impressively marked 38 out of 48 points on it and ended the match
with 75 points.
The qualifying fifth seed, Richard Muzaev, will accompany Gerasimov in the proceeding round. He smashed seven aces and cashed five out of seven break chances to formulate a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory against his compatriot, Evgeny Elistratov. The higher ranked
Russian clobbered a lower first serve share of 53 per cent as compared to his rival’s 70 per cent but magnificently clinched 31 out of 47 points on it. He ended the match with 94 points and ruled the match.
