Egypt clinches gold-ware at the African Nations Women’s Championship
It was the height of delight in the Egyptian squad as the Women’s National Volleyball Team from Egypt beat hosts Tunisia in the final-combat on 13th African Nations Volleyball Championship on Tuesday, 19th October, 2010. Egypt posted
a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, and 25-16) victory over Tunisia and secured the title-trophy.
The 5-day campaign was kicked off on October 14 and continued up till October 19, 2010 at Tunis, Tunisia. Teams from Algeria, Egypt, Rwanda, Cote d’Ivoire and home-team Tunisia embarked on the podium. Tunisia used the advantage of home-courts and exhibited
incredible play in front of local fans. The team won all its matches until the final day when Egypt broke their winning streak and defeated them in straight sets.
Egypt started the campaign in a unique style and didn’t allow any other team to hinder their performance. They remained consistent in catching the limelight for their great effort and clashed with Tunisia in the final match of the championship.
First Set
Both sides were up for the big challenge and descended in the court with excellent strategies and game plan. Tunisia was on serve in the first set. They provided plenty of power to generate good serves and created a strong impression in the game. One the
other hand, Egyptian team enjoyed the top form and received the ball with great style. The exchange of convincing shots created a remarkable vibe in the game. Tunisia was the first one to score points in the set, while Egypt struggled to get access to success.
They put their magic in the game and stole points from Tunisia.
Egypt started the valiant effort with a variety of shots. They threw the ball at various different lengths and tried to put the opponent-side down. Egypt added consecutive points in their score and picked up a lead after the first technical timeout. Tunisian
blockers put-up good effort to stop Egyptian score but Pharaohs kept on contributing important points in their score. They maintained their lead up till the set point. Tunisia couldn’t catch up with the speed of Egypt and acknowledged their better status.
Egypt secured the first set with the help of 25-18.
Second Set
The good start helped the Egyptian team and they remained hand-in-hand with success in the following set. Tunisia was down with ball-reception errors in second set and provided an extra edge to rival side. Egyptian players stood firm in their boots and jumped
on every shot. Tension started building up for the home-team as they failed to break the rhythm of Egyptian squad. The fans backed-up their home-team and enticed them to put up with the trial. Despite of frequent attack attempts, Tunisia couldn’t gain the
commanding position in game. The second set slightly inched to the end line and Egypt led the game with better score. The second set also came successful for the visitors Egypt and they pushed Tunisia behind. Tunisia scored 19 points, while Egypt put an end
to the second by achieving set point at 25.
Third Set
The game was almost slipped from the hands of Tunisian players by the loss of two early sets. Egypt was in authority and they influenced Tunisian team with a delivery of electrifying shots. The Egyptian team geared up and hit adversely. Tunisia had no chance
to penetrate the powerful cruising speed-bomb of Egyptian hitters. They gave way to Egyptian lead and suffered the set-back. The Tunisian players looked at each other’s face suspiciously as their game-plan seemed to completely fail. The power-lacking shots
created more trouble for them and Egypt edged them with a score of 25-16 in third set. Egyptian ladies proudly marched as winners of African Nations Championship and took away the gold. Tunisia settled for the second spot in the championship.
