Egypt defeats Algeria by 3-1 in Pool A match of Girls’ Youth World Championship
The third day of the Girls’ Youth World Championship saw a match between the Egyptians and the Algerians on the 14th August.
The venue of the competition was the Baskent Hall in Ankara, Turkey. The contest among the two teams took four long and thrilling sets to reach its close at the end of which the Egyptians found themselves victorious.
The first set of the match saw the Egyptians scrap off a win by a significant margin while the second set saw the Algerians slacken a bit more that lead towards a comfortable victory by the Egyptians. The loss of the two sets of the game sent the Algerians
a wakeup call in response of which they stepped up their game and were successful in bagging the third set.
However, the Egyptians made sure that the fourth set went their way and Egypt won the match at the following final set scores, 25-19, 25-13, 20-25 and 25-18.
The coach of the Egyptian team, Ahmed Mohamed made the following comments at the press conference after the match had reached its close, “Congratulations and good luck to the Egyptian delegation and the Egyptian volleyball Federation for that victory. Algeria
played well. We played very well in the first and second set but we lost our concentration in the third set. We succeeded to come back in the fourth set to win the match.”
On the other hand, the Algerian coach Karim Imedjab expressed himself by giving these statements, “The Egyptian team played very well. We have reception mistakes in whole match. Although we improved in the third set and won with our better performance the
reception as well as the mistakes of the libero again were the cause we lost the fourth set.”
The start of the first set saw the Algerians taking the lead at 7-1 however, by the time the second technical timeout was reached, the Egyptians were leading with 16-13 and that eventually led them to win the set at 25-19.
The Egyptians were able to gain clear dominance of the courts at the start of the second set as they had the lead at 8-0. The Algerians tried to close in the gap but they could only bring the score to show 16-7. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before
the Egyptians had bagged the game at 25-13.
The Algerians were leading in the third set at 8-2 but the Egyptians got them the advantage later on at 16-14. The Algerians were able to tie the match at 19-19 after which they put on a spurt of speed and got a win at 25-20.
The fourth set of the match was fairly dominated by the Egyptians and once they had the lead, Egypt stuck with it until the very end at 25-18.
With their recent win, the Egyptians have been able to improve their record to show 1-2 while the Algerians cradle a 0-3 record.
