Egypt defeats Puerto Rico by 3-1 in second round of FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship
The second round of the FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship is currently taking place in Almirante Brown, Argentina. Egypt and Puerto Rico were scheduled for a ficture on August 25, in which the Egyptians secured a win over their rivals, making it their
second consecutive victory in the tournament.
The first set of the match was won by the Puerto Ricans by a comfortable margin and it looked like the Egyptians would not be able to stand up against the onslaught of their rivals. However, the way the Egyptians performed in the second set left no doubt
that they were in it for a fight. After winning the second set, the Egyptians played impressively in the third as well as the fourth sets, winning both by a significant margin. By the time that the Egyptians were celebrating their win, the final set scores
stood at the following figures: 15-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-17.
The coach of the Egyptian team, Hossameldin Eissawy, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference after the match has reached its close: "Puerto Rico is a great team, very fast. They played pretty well the first set, we couldn't reach
them. We all played in a good way.”
Whereas the Puerto Rican, Ramon Lawrence, coach gave these statements and shared his views: "I congratulate Egypt for the win. We didn't know how to play better at the critical moments. My players should know how to play with the pressure of the crowd".
The opening set gave the lead to the Puerto Ricans at 8-2 and the Egyptians could not stop them from extending the lead till 16-8. The Egyptians kept on trailing as the Puerto Ricans edged towards a win at 25-15
The start of the second set brought the lead to the Puerto Ricans once again at 8-4 but Egypt was able to close in the gap this time at 16-15. Eventually the match found itself to be tied at 22-22 after which the Egyptians managed to pull up ahead to equalise
the contest with a win at 25-22.
The third set remained tough in the initial stages with both the teams struggling till the second technical time out which came with a Egyptian lead of 16-15. After this point however, the Egyptian side stepped up their game and pulled up to bag the set
at 25-19. Likewise, the fourth set of the game took on a similar hue as its predecessor and the Egyptians did not have a hard time in making a win at 25-17.
The Egyptian player Islam Abdelkader was able to register the highest number of points in the match by scoring 17 of them while the Puerto Rican top scorer was Francisco Velez with 15 points.
