Egypt defeats Tunisia by 3-1 in second round of FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship
A Pool G match of the FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship took place between Egypt and Tunisia in Almmirante Brown, Argentina on August 25. What followed was a four set long battle that ended with the Egyptian celebrating their hard earned win.
The first set of the match saw the two teams lock horns in a struggle to gain dominance on the courts. By the time the set reached its close, the Egyptians had earned a win. Tunisia was able to rebound with in the second set of the game and took the set
home. The third set was dominated by the Egyptians as Tunisia did not put up much of a challenge. The fourth set was the most intense but Tunisia could not muster a win as the Egyptians won the match at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-22, 15-25 and
28-26.
The coach of the Egyptian team, Hossameldin Eissawy, made the following comments after the match had reached its close: "I want to congratulate the team and the whole delegation. It's always nice to play against Tunisia because they are the top team in the
African league. Until now, we got all we wanted. We are waiting to play against Brazil. Since we got here, we are playing better.”
Whereas the Tunisian coach Hichem Ben Romdhane expressed himself at the press conference in this manner: "It was complicated for us from the first set on, when our setter (Ben Slimene) got injured. The team lost its concentration and we couldn't keep the
level of our game.”
The Egyptians were leading at the start of the first set at 6-2 and managed to extend the advantage to 16-10. After that point, Tunisia could not bring itself back into the game and Egypt got a smooth win at 25-19.
The second set saw Tunisia leading at 5-1 but by the time the second technical time out came; Egypt had the advantage at 16-14. The Tunisians were able to close in the gap at 24-22 but lost the frame at 25-22.
The loss of the first two sets sent a much needed wakeup call to the Tunisians and they fought the entire set with determination and skill to get back into the game by taking the match to a fourth set by winning the third at 25-15.
The fourth set remained tough all through with the score tied at 24-24. Eventually however, it was the Egyptian side that won the set at 28-26.
The top scorer among both the teams was the Egyptian player Islam Abdelkader as he posted 22 points while the Tunisian Ousama Mrika topped the Tunisian team by adding 20 kills.
