Do you view a religious muslim who wears hijab, reads quran, prays 5 times a day, aviods consuming alchohol never talks with or date guys, doesn't m********e or have s*x until she is married as a better person in terms of character and heart than a modern muslim who dont pray or read quran or wears hijab, consume alchohol, parties, have relationship with guys BUT a very nice person with good character and heart or you don't judge people based on religious morals?

  1. NO, I don't have the same amount of respect for both. In fact, I don't have any respect to the second case (in your detailed question) at all and I mentioned before that I prefer to keep myself and my family away from them.

The fact is that a person who calls himself a Muslim and do all these things (second case) is a typical "hypocrite". How do you expect me to respect him.

Additionally, this person is highly appreciated by Islam haters, not because they respect him or anything like that, but he is a good tool (dummy) that they use to point out at saying that this is the modern Muslim, and they want all Muslims to be the same. He also wants all other good Muslims to be like him (Bad Apple Syndrome).

I was told in several occasions by many people (European) that they have more respect to Muslims who sticks to their religion, because they do what they say. It is called (Credibility), and this how you earn respect of respectable people.

    Edit:

@ Bush....: Man, please put some effort reading my answer correctly. Why do you keep saying things I didn't say??

I never said non religious people are hypocrite, I clearly said that people who call themselves Muslims and do everything that is against Islamic teachings are hypocrites, what is wrong with this statement?

I know alot of people who have no religion, many christians and many others, I respect them and have nothing against them. But I find someone who go Church and claim that he is religious and see him some where cheating on his wife for example will lose every respect I have for him, so is for Mulsim who do the same.

    .

  2. i respect all humans .

but i trust the ones who observe the dictums of Islam.

  3. as i live in egypt, i noticed that religious Muslims are always the one who make troubles, like in work, streets or even parks.

so i respect "liberal Muslims" much much more than religious Muslims.

  4. Everyone Masturbates no matter how religious they claim to be.

  5. Well as an Egyptian myself I could answer this question reasonably well. In Egypt now I would probably assert that 90% of Muslim woman wear the higab (hijab). The thing is, many of them did not, about 20 years ago maybe only 40% wore it. Now I don't think they have become more religious, but if you see your friend wear the higab, then your mother, then your sister, eventually you become compelled to wear it - just because everyone else is.

I see in the parks girls, fully covered holdign hands and kissing and holding boys. So, it is easy to come to the conclusion that the higab is more of a fashion thing, then a religious thing.

So I think these girls probably fit in between your two extremes. I'd say they make up the majority (not overly religious, but observant).

I personally don't respect overly religious people, and maybe respect the liberal ones more. The more fanatical these people get, the more discriminatory they become of the liberal Muslims and the other religious minorities in Egypt. They walk around thinking they are the best, and show off their religion. I don't like this.

Be freethinking, but believe in God. Being overly religious is not healthy for society.

  6. every one will be asked about what he did , btw I don't like both , I like normal people , who just try to be the best they could .

  7. There are lots of people in between, you put the two extremes and tell us to choose, and implying that the religious girl who don't do anything fun is actually have something wrong with her or - by contrast - is not "a very nice person with good character and heart"..well, a respectful lady gains respect because of her deeds and attitude. Appearances and "having relationships with guys" do count in judgment of people for such a girl even in the liberal societies..

I think the problem of some people is that they choose a life style (whatever it's right or wrong) but still desperately subconsciously seeking the consent of others in the same society or tries to force his/her views concerning that choice on other people...

  8. Provided the liberal Muslim has good character etc., and the religious Muslim isnt a hypocrite with attitude, then both get the same of respect from me.

God is judge, not me or any other human.

  9. I don't judge people full stop.

I don't care what religion they are, or how dedicated they are to it, that is their choice & their business.

In fact i would say that i respect all peoples beliefs & how they choose to follow them, but i think i'm unusual in this, sadly.

  10. Personally, I always prefer liberal-anything than conservative-anything.

Now, after the answer from user Sultan, I have to stress a few points.

I don't know about Muslim haters, but an average Westerner appreciates liberal Muslims more not for the reasons this user mentioned, but simply because their philosophy and lifestyle are closer to the the philosophy and lifestyle they prefer and practice. BUT, at the same time, an average Westerner respects anyone as long as the other person is not unfair to others. Or intolerant, as this user just proved to be.

As for "hypocrisy" part, so those people are "hypocrites" and they don't deserve respect? OK, so they can choose to freely display in public their philosophy and lifestyle and they will not be discriminated because of that in any way, right? Of course not. The society would not let them. the only two alternatives they have it to either comply under the social pressure or to be "hypocrites". So, sorry, user Sultan and the rest of the company, you cannot call them "hypocrites" as long as they have no freedom to live their life the way they want. The only "hypocrite" here actually is the society and all those "non-hypocrites" who accuse those people of being hypocrites while not giving them a chance to be anything else.

Finally, there is a user (I forgot his name) who wrote here something really, totally, absolutely stupid (sorry, I know it's not nice to say this, but there's no other way) that I almost decided not comment it: if one doesn't make a difference between dating guys and prostitution and between drinking and getting drunk and so on, then that person is so ignorant and uneducated and immature that it's hard to imagine. This is a school book example for such a condition.

  11. I dont judge people and I try and respect everybody..untill they prove to be unworthy of my respect.. by not being a nice person generally or by beig mean or generally immoral. But even those I try not to judge..coz to each their own really..and I like to mind my own business. Live and let live..

  12. yo sup

definately the liberal one the religious one is radical and a freakin backward person...ima athiest and i do all the things u mentioned in 2nd person and why should we judge ppl based on their religious morals cause afterall its tells us nothing about the charecter and what kinda person she is.ps she practices a religion and she is modern thats the kinda ppl muslims need to be

EDIT TO Milky:"it is easy to come to the conclusion that the higab is more of a fashion thing, then a religious thing. "

lol thats the funniest thing i ever heard, but other than that i sorta agree with u

EDIT TO SHAFAT: omg man thats so radical!

matter of fact the other time i didnt call u or muslims radical but wat u say about modern muslims is aint cool at all and makes u look radical.wats wrong with non religious ppl yall they aint no hypocrites why do they have to follow all that a religion says religion is a personal belief so if they dont want to do somthin u cant force em to.

this is the problem with backward radical muslims......
