Egypt section - Why do some Egyptians get offended when told they look black or have black features?

Question

I was talking to a guy I met online and we exchanged photos.He has a tanned skin like most Egyptians but some black features like hair so I asked him if he has any african heritige.He said no and then he started to tell me that I have very dark skin and have african background.I was amazed because I clearly have white skin and no african features and was very confused, but later he admitted he was kidding with me and he said it because I told him he has black features.He denied that he was mad but clearly he was offended.

I am just wondering whether many are Egyptians like him?

well coptic egyptians are even more strange - they'd emphasise being coptic- and being the "true egyptians"

Depends on the person himself if he is sensitive from his look, also maybe you told him that with a funny way which may hurts him,

No. Just because he acted the way he did doesn't mean all Egyptians act the same way. Be careful of what you say and watch your comments. I don't think there is anything wrong about being African, but don't be hasty when you ask about ethnic origins because it can be perceived the wrong way. Egyptians naturally have black hair. Asians have black hair. Mexicans and Pacific Islanders have black hair too. Don't be too quick, that's all.

I have to agree with you on this one , although most of us have dark skin but we don`t like that color in Egypt & the most incredible thing is that we don`t know something called dark or tanned ...no , when they`re not obviously white then they`re BLACK ...SOOD !!!

and a lot of men refuse to marry a dark skinned girl , they say '' di sodah!!!! '' & I heard that a thousand  times '' bas di sodah '' & most of the time they`re not SOOD but dark or '' Am7i'' like we say in Egypt & on the other hand girls say '' mosh 3ayza 3arees eswed ! '' :D

so , yes , we don`t like that color or features in Egypt unfortunately , although we have millions of dark skinned people specially in Upper Egypt.

Egyptians like what they can't have, light skin color. So if you tell one of them that their skin is dark and it's abvious, it just reminds them of what they can't have.

Muslims in Egypt consider themselves Arabs, not Africans, that's why may be he felt offended.
