Egyptian Maadi AK-47 Stock configurations?

Alright so on the way home from work tonight I stop in the local Gun Distributor to say hi. So I see on the wall he has(or now had) a Maadi AK-47 on the wall. It had nothing but a pistol grip on it. The back of the receiver was flush and the mount (a piece of metal with two holes in it that sticks out about 1 3/4" of an inch. Just below that it is flat and flush. Looking at the different stocks they all seem to have a milled part that should slide into the receiver, that on mine don't exist. It don't look as if it was modified to be like that it just looks like that is the way it is. Anyone have any ideas about what kind of stock would go on this type of weapon? Or have you seen this kind of thing before. I would post pics but I haven't even got a chance to sneak it in the house yet. I have to wait for my wife to go to sleep. Thanks for any info.

  1. Hiding guns from the Old lady huh? Good for you! As for the stock I've seen alot of those E Maadi's with a thumbhole stock which use that single tang configuration in combination with the pistol grip s***w for stability. My guess is either the stock was damaged or missing and a pistol grip was stuck on there to make it an entry weapon or just able to fire. Look up Maadi on gunbroker.com to see what I mean. There are some with standard stocks but they my be pre-ban models.

  2. It was made Cairo. You are correct on finding it difficult finding a matched stock.  I do not know of any after market stock that will work.  I think you are stuck with having a custom wood stock made for it. I suggest you check with your dealer and see what they have to recommend. You can also google it and see what you find. You do have a great weapon.

  3. Somebody modified it.   It definitely didn't come that way.   Most you will find came with a thumbhole stock unless it is a dreaded Century Arms Franken-Maadi.

Not all Maadis are created equal.   You should look at the model number.  Some came over here as parts kits and Century Arms made some of the poorest versions you will find.  Stay away from the MISR-90.

Most of the ARM , RPM and RML versions imported by Pars and ACC/Intrac are some of the nicest post 1988 versions you will come across.

  4. I take it you are not hunting with this gun?!*
