Egyptian Muslim Ladies:Is it true that muslimahs cannot wear nail polish when praying?

I was told that muslimahs cannot wear nail polish while doing wudu and pray because the water will not get to your nails while doing wudu, so your hands will still not be clean. Is this true? Or is this an extreme perspective? Thank you.

yes nail polish prevents the water from reaching your nails..

like you said like waterproof mascara too..

cause the idea is the water reaches all your body parts that should be washed in wudu' like other answers say..

I agree with the above answerers...I have heard "variations" to the rules....I happen to love nail polish, so I asked my husband to speak to the sheikh who then told him that the nail polish should be removed every 5 Salats...but I don't know for sure about his opinion in this case....many people I think would say every wudu it should be removed. I have also heard of the idea that as long as you left an area close to the cuticle (like when it grows out) free from polish that it allows the water to touch the nail and therefore qualifies wudu.

--Just different versions....and don't take my word for it...I just wanted to mention what i had heard.

The makeup is definately a no-no in wudu...but you can put it on after.

sweety the idea of wudu and eltahara is that water comes in direct contact with ur skin and body parts ( including ur nails), so u cannot wear nailpolish while doin wudu BUT u can put on nailpolish after wudu and go pray..

eman habibty who said that u cannot pray wearing np more than once? if u still keep wudu then sure u can!

and not all makeup, only the waterproof ones

yeah .. it is true cause the water should enter the nails but the nail polish do not let the water enter in ..

yeah it's true my mom always told me that ..cause when doing wudu the water should touch your nails and touch underneath your nail that why you wash your hand in wudu

i'll add to what Mady said that it is just one pray that u can do with the nail polish after that the lady should erase it.

No, they can't. because nailpolish prevents the water from reaching the nail even if it is not skin {then there's the makeup which is the same case}

The goal of Prayers is purifying the soul

And the goal of Wudu purfying the body.

So both are related: none is correctly complete unless there is the other.

Personal Hygene is one of the main perspective in Islam.

There is even a Hadith that links hygene to faith:

{Cleanness is part/mean of faith}

This also includes waterproof makeup first and formost  

You can do Wuduu and put make up... :)
