  1. yes

  2. yes ok so you only want opinions from Egyptians etc, hmmmm now who's being racist.

I'm English and yes we are suspicious of you, wouldn't you be?

first let me explain that i have several very close Muslim friends, as do both my daughters of several different nationalities. in fact between us we probably have friends in most countries and certainly all the continents of the world. so i hope i am not racist. but i am clearly English, blonde, green eyes etc, and i teach so i hear many opinions from other English people. There is a fear of Muslims, a fear of  violence. a fear of prejudice from Muslims and a worry that the fundamentalists will not stop. But the average British middle class citizen is reserved. They will not tell you or show you what they are thinking, any more than the average Muslim says exactly what they are thinking to the average westerner. so they will be polite but cool, after all they dont want to be accused of prejudice either. and if you think of the number of attempts both successful and unsuccessful to kill and terrorise westerners in the last decade or so, then maybe you can start to see both sides. As i try to do. and until we all drop our prejudices and start to see both sides of the story, it will continue............. on both sides.

  3. I know you wanted opinions of only middle easterners and Egyptians..

but I gotta totally agree with you.

It's not "kinda" it's not "sorta".. it's real discrimination and it happens all the time. Most people Are not like that to a major degree but people do carry a bias around with them.

I remember it was the blacks getting blamed and scrutinized when I was growing up. It is starting to get back to the Latinos again what with all this immigration hulabaloo..

Like Mr. Angelo said.. looking different is all that's needed.

Did you know that back during the Pearl Harbor attacks that there was forcible relocation and internment of approximately 110,000 Japanese nationals and Japanese Americans to housing facilities called "War Relocation Camps" in the U.S. mainland?

Japanese Americans residing on the West Coast of the United States were all interned, whereas in Hawaii, where over 150,000 Japanese Americans comprised nearly a third of that territory's population, an additional 1,200 to 1,800 Japanese Americans were interned.Of those interned, 62% were United States citizens!!

In 1988 President Ronald Reagan signed legislation which apologized for the internment on behalf of the U.S. government. The legislation stated that government actions were based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership".. I think that sums up our current situation nicley don't you think?

Being a light skinned female American passport holder I noticed how easily I can pass through airports and such while every brown man beside me in line got his every crevice examined! Don't get me wrong.. security IS important.. but the "guidelines" should be applied equally.

Don't even get me started about the Native American situation.. BAAAHH!!

The world is a damned unfair, funny place. Most of this is based in fear, lack of information and hard headed refusal to change ideas in light of new evidence. All I can say is confront and counter ignorance where you meet it.. Slowly, the world may wise up.

I just wonder what ethnic group will be next..

I love my country dearly.. Ideally America is supposed to be a place for EVERYONE!  It is just ignorance I cannot stand.

sorry that was a long answer.. but I am deeply passionate about the subject.

  4. Well I live in Greece and I must say that a lot of the discrimination came from the younger crowd of Greeks and not the older ones. The older ones seem to be able to see right through this kind of thing. The discrimination didn't last very long, once the US declared war on Iraq, everybody knew the game plan. That doesn't mean there weren't any schmucks who were racist, but I'm quite pleased with the majority. I haven't been subject to racism and none of my family, it has a lot to do with the fact that the Greeks love Egyptians but I have some Arab friends who were especially guys.

  5. heck yes there is discrimination, im in California, and despite lots of different nationlities there is still lots of discrimination against us, like in class

I get called racist things, even by a teacher once as a "joke", ppl are surprised that I know how to use a computer, or have one, in elem. and junior high, teachers talk to me like I don't know English (even tho i was frikkin born here), and one teacher in high school told me Welcome to America when i told her im egyptian.........

thats asides from all the BS ppl say about our religion, and the retarded thigns they ask like living in pyramids, riding camels

and of course, when u go into a store, the security guard follows you, and ppl will always go to YOU before anyone else, and say "Can I help you with something" or "Do you need something" if you are just standing in a store.........and ppl talking to you R E AL L Y S L O W and gesturing with their hands to make sure you "U N DE R STAND", and call you "my friend" in a condescending way, like, "You cant have your cell phone out in class, friend", etc, like if they didnt say that imma attack em or something,

    Flipping idiots.......

  6. i lived there for 7 years .. from 1999 to 2006

things after 2001 sure changed .. we became suspects .. being inspected all the time .. whenever i had my school bag with me in a supermarket i was pulled aside and asked to open it ... etc ....

but we also had loads of fun  .. whenever a Lettuce (that's what we called them) or a skinhead / starting shouting racist and ethnic slurs at us .. we would pretend to be terrorists and scare the h**l out of him by taking out an imaginary bomb ... and laugh while looking at him run for it hahahaha ...

  7. Im not muslim but im middle eastern living in america and I get watched more closely I think, I get stopped a lot at the airport.
