  1. Hi Elsie if all else fails I suppose you could try the Cairo Tourist Board .

  2. the crocodile woman used to give me free board...when i used to go there...but i repaid them with pleasure......seamanab x

  3. If you are intending to come to Egypt then I recommend you invest in a copy of The Lonely Planet Guide to Egypt.

It will give you the information of whether the hotel is privately owned or is part of a chain as well as an independent review and details regarding whether the rooms have a/c, fridge, TV en suites, the general conditon, noise, comfort, location etc.

As well as being a great resource for finding the right accommodation at the right price the Lonely Planet Guide is packed with relevant information you need to know about travelling in Egypt. from ideas for 1,2 or 3 day itineraries of what to see and do in Cairo, to suggestions and reviews of restaurants and tour companies.

It is in fact as good as having your own guide and even after coming to Egypt for 4 years as a tour guide ann living here for the past  2 years, I still carry my copy around in the car and its amazing how many times I've had to use it for myslef or to give tourists directions, even though its now a bit dogearred and not the lastest edition.

The Lonely Planet Guide also gives you a idea of how much you should expect to pay for things like taxi trips and tipping.

A good rule for holidaying in Egypt is to remember if the hotel, restaurant or tour company etc is not mentioned in the Lonely Planet Guide then avoid it.

For it is not included for a good reason,as all assessments and reviews are made by experienced "secret" travellers and inclusion into The Lonely Planet Guide cannot be purchased as a form of advertising.

All hotels thoughout Egypt must be at least partly owned by Egyptian companies or individuals.

  4. govermental hotels are no longer govermental, since some time and they sold all the famous the hotels to forigners. so to find an egyptian running a hotel is rare and if yes it wont be of an international standards.

i know one in sharm called gazalla, and i think there is more in sharm that can be run by egyptians.

check this site, and i think the hotel which have egyptian name could be run by egyptians, so you can send them and ask your questions:

  5. Ask your husband. ;)

  6. check it out on the internet
