Ehsan Mani blames PCB for the current state of Pakistan cricket
Ehsan Mani, former president of the International Cricket Council has denied the notion of few Pakistani former cricketers that ICC is targeting Pakistan cricket. Mani rather blamed top authorities of Pakistan Cricket Board for the current
turbulent state of the game in the country.
"ICC is not against Pakistan, it's Pakistan Cricket Board which is against their cricket and has not sorted out their problems, forcing the ICC to take the matters in its hands," ICC’s former president http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ehsan-Mani-c55791 said while talking to the
media reporters.
Mani criticized PCB’s current structure saying that the way governing body is being run it seems “it is only to protect the position of one person". Mani, who had been ICC president from 2003 to 2006, though, did not mention anybody’s name
but it is understandable that he under fired PCB chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128.
Pakistan's tour to England this summer was marred by spot-fixing allegations levelled by a British tabloid,
News of the World, against its three key players during Lord's Test. The allegations led to the provisional suspension of the trio by the ICC.
Appeals of Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir against their suspension were turned down by the ICC on Sunday. The third suspended player, Mohammad Asif, had withdrawn his appeal a week before hearing.
Moreover, the apex body of international cricket has also given PCB a deadline of 30 days to implement measures to restrain corruption and other problems or to get ready to face the consequences, more likely in the form of sanctions against
Pakistan board.
No international team has visited Pakistan since militant attacks on the visiting Sri Lankan team's bus in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) and England. All this resulted
in huge financial losses besides fears that the game will start losing its fame among the youth.
The former President of International Cricket Council said that the PCB should have shown the responsibility taking the lead to sort those things out without intervention of the ICC. He further added that the incapability of Pakistan Cricket
Board prompted ICC to intervene.
"It is because we are not capable of doing it that the ICC has said we will step in. I know some of the people on the committee (ICC) and they seriously have Pakistan's cricket at heart, I've got no doubt about that," said Mani.
Mani, the only Pakistani who enjoyed the high profile position in ICC, said the Pakistan Cricket Board had plenty to work upon in order to put the country game on a thriving track. "Domestic cricket, schools' cricket, clubs' cricket - I
hear there are quite a lot of issues in domestic cricket in Pakistan which needed to be addressed," said Ehsan Mani.
Mani said that the Pakistan cricket needs a good system if the country wants the game to flourish there. He further added that the performance of a board depends upon its chairman, good the chairman, so would be the board and vice-versa.
"You will always find that the boards with the best systems, like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, their teams will always do better because the team selection, the selection of the selectors, is a whole process.”
Another former cricketer of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Asif Iqbal, had also blamed Pakistan Cricket Board for its weak role in defending suspensions of its players.
