http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ehsan-Mani-c55791 regards Haroon Lorgat’s comments as inappropriate
Ehsan Mani, the former president of International Cricket Council (ICC) has regarded the remarks by ICC CEO http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 about Pakistani players in the spot-fixing issue as inappropriate.
Mani was of the view that as the ICC code of conduct tribunal had yet to hold the hearing of the case, Lorgat’s words over the issue were not at all necessary.
While talking to an international news channel, Mani said:
“The three-member ICC tribunal will hold the hearing next month, therefore Lorgat should not have said anything on the issue, his remarks were inappropriate and if I was the ICC President, I would surely take action against him”.
The remarks floated by Lorgat have also upset the lawyers of the three suspended players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir.
The suspended trio is going to have a hearing in Doha on January 6 to 11, where the ICC tribunal for anti-corruption will consider various charges levelled against the Pakistani players.
Mani also went on to criticize the Pakistan Cricket Board and said that the way PCB had been ignoring such an important issue, it was totally inexplicable. “I would think the PCB should have stood by the three players until they were proven guilty” said
the former president of ICC.
However, surprisingly and ironically, Tafazzul Rizvi, the legal advisor of Pakistan Cricket Board had made it clear that according to him, Lorgat’s statement was uncalled for or inappropriate. “One must not forget that he is also the ICC chief executive
and the ICC is the party pressing the charges against the player in this case so Lorgat has every right to say he would be disappointed if the players were not found guilty”, said Rizvi while talking to the reporters.
An indifferent looking Rizvi further said that PCB did not have anything to do with the case as the allegations put by the ICC had addressed the trio individually, and now they were responsible to respond by themselves.
The legal advisor of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board made it clear that PCB was not a party in the case and hence it did not want to get involved with the players by supporting them in any manner.
Thanks to Mani, who showed the moral courage to call a spade a spade and looked more concerned over the issues Pakistani cricket has been facing amid the incapable and incompetent authorities, otherwise there was none who could raise voice in favour of the
poor suspended trio. However, it is also true that whatever has been said by Mani will most likely fall on deaf ears.
