First off, I suck at titles.

Any ways, I was wondering, Are all of the Eichers in Germany related? Even if it's distant. 'Cause my last name is Eicher, and there seem to be a lot of them.

  1. This is quite a weird question, I mean, are all the people in the states or wherever with the name Smith related? Think about it.

  2. Eicher is derived from the word "Eiche" meaning oak. A possible explanation for the meaning of the name is "person living near an oak".  With this background it is unlikely that all Eicher's living in/hailing from Germany are related.

  3. It probably isn't so but there are ways of finding out.  You can go to genology.com and look up your family's history and find out.  It is interesting and a lot of fun.  You should print out a copy of your family tree and family history when you are done and keep it for your kids and then their kids, etc.  Good luck family hunting!!!

  4. I doubt it. There may be a few that you share some distant relationship with but you really need to trace your family tree and find out which part of Germany they hail from and then have the names of grandparents and try to access the archives of the equivalent of a bureau of births, deaths and marriages in a particular city.
