Eifion Lewis-Roberts could be out for season
Sale has suffered a setback with the news that prop Eifion Lewis-Roberts could be out for the rest of the season with injury.
The 29-year-old Welshman ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during the 27-17 win over Harlequins last weekend. He will also not play any part in Wales' autumn internationals or Six Nations campaign.
"Eifion is not looking good and it looks like he might be out for the season.
He's done his ACL. We'll get the swelling down over the next two to three weeks and then he'll need a knee reconstruction,"
said head coach Mike Brewer.
This is very bad news for the club because Lewis-Roberts is an important and effective player. The club is lucky that there is so much cover at prop and a replacement can
be drafted in.
Huge blow
This is a huge blow because Lewis-Roberts represented a big part of what Sale is trying to achieve this season. He's a very hard working and honest player that has been
crucial to the Sale defence during the start of the season.
The club has to provide all of the right facilities and treatments for the player to recover. Lewis-Roberts signed a new three-year deal with the club in the summer and
there is a strong chance this injury could have a negative effect on his mentality.
"In terms of how long he will be out, it will be certainly long term until
the end of March at least. Unfortunately, that's what happens. We've been pretty lucky so far in terms of avoiding major injuries,"
added Brewer.
The club will now draft in a replacement for up and coming games in the Premiership. Jack Forster or Martin Halsall look the most likely players to contend for Lewis-Roberts'
place. The player that does come in is bound to make the most of a chance that would not have been expected.
Betting advice
Lewis-Roberts is very important to the side but the club will cope over the coming weeks and months. There's no reason to change your betting patterns with Sale. The club
still has a good chance of breaking the top four.
