Anyone know any results from the necropsy? Was she hurt before or after the finish? Was her break down due to something else?

  1. Im pretty sure she suffered from two compound fractures of her front legs after the race was finished.  Realizing she would not recover and the pain she was in, decided to let her go, which is the humane thing to do.  Think on how much these horses are worth and how much they make.  Some people are saying she was pushed to hard in a field of colts but I dont see it as that way, I see it as a unfortunate turn of events on what should of been a celebrated win for Big Brown.  Dont blame the jockey, it was just a accident.

  2. I heard it was after because how could she run up to the finish line if her ankles were broke? This is so sad.

  3. what few people understand about racehorses is that these animals are BRED and BORN WANTING to run. there's a legend about one crossing the finish AFTER his heart burst. they simply don't stop. so even if the injury occurred before the finish, it probably wouldn't have stopped her.

  4. According to "Good Morning America" this morning, it was after the race was finished. She broke 3 bones in her right ankle and then 2 in her left. The person on the show from Louisville, KY said she would have fallen at or right after the finish line if the break had happened at the end of the race. She couldn't have walked more than a couple of strides with all of those fractures.

    So sad.

  5. I don't know but that is why I don't watch horse racing.

  6. She was just pushed to hard during the race and broke down and was euthinized on the track.

  7. It was just a freak accident -- like with Barbaro -- but this time, she broke TWO ankles and she couldn't even stand up to get off the track. She ran the race like a champ and finished so well, it's not because she wasn't ready or shouldn't have been in that race.

Horses that young are still growing and it only takes one bad (or slightly off) stride to snap those bones.
