Eight over maiden spell summed up our intent says Peter Siddle – Cricket News Update
Australian pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204, as the most precious moment of the series, claiming that it summed up the intent of the team.
It came in the second bout at the SCG, where the duo bowled at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 and despite remaining wicket less, it was that spell which the pacer has fond memories of.
"I think the best bowling spell we had was probably in Sydney when me and Hilfy bowled a partnership, we didn't get any wickets but we bowled [eight] overs straight of maidens. I think that just summed up the summer and what we wanted to achieve. In every
match that we bowled, that is what we wanted to go about it. That was perfect and showed what we were all about."
It has certainly been a memorable series for Siddle and Hilfenhaus after both fell behind the pecking order, following a lacklustre home summer last year in the Ashes.
Both were taken for considerable battering from the English contingent, marking the fall of the Kangaroo Empire and leading to the Argus Review, which came to surface following a disappointing show at the World Cup 2011.
However, Siddle went from strength to strength against the Men In Blue where he claimed a total of 23 wickets at 18.65. Hilfenhaus also cemented himself as a key member of the team, taking 27 wickets at 17.22.
The series also marked the rise of another pacer in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653, who bowled impeccably in the first two games of the series before getting injured. However, such was the strength and depth in the squad that the hosts never felt short in the backup with
the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 coming in and doing the job with remarkable ease.
Siddle further added that the high point also remained building bowling partnerships.
"We knew every morning we rocked up and had to bowl in partnerships and be consistent and be patient and I think it showed in the performances. Everyone that bowled got the job done and lucky enough a few of us got the rewards."
