Eirini Georgatou defeats Nicole Rottman; sails in to the final qualifying round – BAKU Cup 2011
Greek tennis pro Eirini Georgatou crushed Nicole Rottman of Austira 6-3, 6-1 to book her place in the third round of 2011 Baku Cup qualification round in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Eirini Georgatou has been in decent form since the Women’s Tennis Association tournament has commenced. In her first round match, she eased past her opponent in a meeting that lasted for just over an hour. It will be fair to say that if she can maintain the current level of her play, she has great chance of qualifying for the main draw.
Rottman looked in control early on but as the match progressed, she lost her concentration and eventually paid the heavy price for a large number of unforced errors.
Eirini Georgatou had her first chance of breaking the serve in third game of the opening set. Breaking her opponent with three straight points, she took a vital 3-1 lead in the opener. Looking to find a way back into the set, Rottman raised the level of her game as she clinched her next service game with ease. However the 21-year-old Greek concentrated on her own game play and broke her opponent for the second time in the set to take go 1-0 up in the set score.
Rottman fought hard for every available point but it must be highlighted that Georgatou played the big points better and deservingly pocketed the first set.
The second set also followed a similar trend as Georgatou continued to time the ball perfectly. Breaking the serve at regular intervals, she took complete control of the situation and forced errors form her opponent. Rottman fell under pressure as she started to miss out on easy opportunities.
Claiming six out of seven games in the second set, Georgatou gave a stunning performance to seal straight sets victory in a match that lasted for only one hour 34 minutes on the hard courts of Baku.
Georgatou served with deadly control and accuracy as she hit 73 per cent first serve. She was certainly the braver of the two players as she wasn’t afraid of using the hit and volley technique.
The Austrian, on the other hand, had to fight hard for her second serve points as her serve was quite ordinary. She had her chances to break her opponent but she couldn’t handle the heat and let Georgatou take control of the game.
Georgatou is having a forgettable time on the Women’s Tennis Association tour this season. She has won only a mere eleven out of 26 matches she has played on the WTA tour in the year 2011. She will be hoping to restore some of the lost pride by making it to the main draw of the tournament.
