Eirini Georgatou trashes Polina Pekhova to advance into main draw – Tashkent Open 2011
Qualifying third seeded Greek Eirini Georgatou eased past Belarusian Polina Pekhova in straight sets at the Tashkent Open 2011, a WTA International event held at the Tashkent Tennis Center in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She registered
a 6-3, 6-3 success over the 19-year-old Belarusian to advance into the main draw on Monday.
Ranked 193rd in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Georgatou took almost an hour to crush the Belarusian in straight sets on the Uzbek hard courts on their first meeting. She has now booked a main draw spot at this
WTA event.
The Greek star stormed into the opening set and got the first blood in the opening game. She broke the Belarusian serve again in the fifth game to take a 4-1 lead. Despite losing her serve in the very next game, Georgatou maintained
her composure and converted another breakpoint opportunity to her advantage in the last game to seal the opener by winning six games to three.
The Greek youngster produced a better first serve share of 65 percent as compared to her rival’s 57 percent and earned an impressive 69 percent win on it. She failed to fend off the only breakpoint faced but capitalised on three
out of four breakpoint opportunities to her advantage.
21-year-old blooming star bombarded her skills from the beginning of the final set. She unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to reel off first four games in a row before losing her serve in the fifth. Later, Georgatou kept her remaining
serve to seal the set with a similar score line again.
The seed improved her stats in the final set and clobbered a much better first serve share of 73 percent this time. She also earned a convincing 68 percent win on it and converted two out of three breakpoint chances to her advantage.
Fifth seeded Aleksandra Krunic will be joining her in the main draw. She rallied past fourth seeded Russian Marta Sirotkina in a three set thriller to real this spot.
Krunic cashed in on all four breakpoint chances to her advantage to register a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(2) score line in two hours and twenty-eight minutes.
