Either an outing or racecourse gallop for Camelot before Ladbrokes St Leger
The four times Group 1 winner, Camelot, will either have a proper outing or a racecourse gallop ahead of his participation in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster in September this year. Aidan O’Brien’s charge retained his unbeaten run, beating Born To Sea in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at Curragh at the end of last month.
Prior to his wonderful victory at Curragh, the three-year-old displayed an extraordinary show at Epsom, winning the Investec Derby with ridiculous ease. After a classy win in Saturday’s Irish Derby in the testing conditions, the dashing colt is all set for a long summer vacation.
After winning the 2000 Guineas, Investec Derby and Irish Derby, the champion runner has set sights on his Triple Crown glory in September’s Ladbrokes St Leger.
The connections are yet to make any final decision on Camelot’s next appearance, as the handler revealed that the colt will have either a race or a racecourse gallop ahead of the Doncaster challenge.
"Camelot seems fine this morning and ate up well. The St Leger is the race we're looking at and he'll either have a racecourse gallop or a race in between. We will do the same as after all the big races and wait a week before sitting down to discuss what will happen,” O’Brien said on Sunday afternoon.
He continued: "To be honest, there aren't that many options between now and then. The Juddmonte International at York wouldn't be an ideal prep for the St Leger as he'd be coming back to a mile and a quarter - he is a strong traveller and we worked hard at getting him to settle."
The trainer also revealed future running plans for So You Think.  Under the trainer’s son J. P. O’Brien, the New Zealander runner recently clinched a handsome victory in the Group 1 150th Anniversary of Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The handler described that So You Think is going to run in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown next Saturday before going back home. The 6-year-old horse has recorded 14 major victories so far in his career.
