Ejdesgaard/Elliott sail past Brown/Walker into title match – Loughborough Challenger 2011
The semi-finals of the women’s doubles competition of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger continued on November 11, 2011. Malou Ejdesgaard (Denmark) and Amanda Elliott (Great Britain) faced the British team of Lucy Brown and
Alexandra Walker. The team of Brown/Walker lost the match 6-4, 3-6, 8-10.
Brown/Walker seemed to have lost some bond in the match, as they could not score any ace in the match. They also conceded four double faults, which clearly showed that they were having trouble in their service games. Ejdesgaard/Elliott
scored an ace in the match and conceded double faults thrice in the match.
In the first set, Brown/Walker had a 71% first serve winning ratio, which was higher than Ejdesgaard/Elliott’s 59% rate. Brown/Walker won 59% from their first serve while Ejdesgaard/Elliott won 65% points. The British pair won
33% points from their second serve while their opponents won 17% points.
It was clear that the British team was lacking the necessary aggression, which could have earned them a victory, as their service games did not produce the desired results.
Brown/Walker saved four of their six breakpoints while their opponents could save three out of their six breakpoints. Brown/Walker were struggling with their aces but they still managed to win the first set 6-4.
As the second set progressed, none of the two teams could score with an ace. Ejdesgaard/Eelliott did not concede any double fault, which showed they were playing controlled shots to stay in the match. They had a 79% first serve
ratio while Brown/Walker secured a 76% rate.
Ejdesgaard/Elliott served with dominance in the second set as they won 87% points from their first serve and won 75% points from their second serve.
Brown/Walker could not use their services games to efficiency in the second set either as they won 60% points from their first serve and only 38% points from their second serve.
Ejdesgaard/Elliott did not let their opponents break any of their serves. Brown/Walker, on the other hand, could save only four of their six breakpoints. Ejdesgaard/Elliott did not score any ace still they were in the lead because
of their decent serves. They won the second set 6-3.
With the third set as the deciding one of the match, Brown/Walker wanted to gain a lead as they had an 89% first serve winning ratio. Their opponents had a 67% first serve winning rate.
The two teams were equal when it came to winning points on first serve. Brown/Walker won 63% points from their first serve while Ejdesgaard/Elliott won 67% points.
In the second serve, Ejdesgaard/Elliott won 67% points but Brown/Walker could not win any points from their second serve, which kept them in the hunt to secure a lead. Ejdesgaard/Elliott won the third set 10-8 and sailed into
the finals of the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger.
