Ektihaam to swing back into action for the seasonal debut Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup Conditions Stakes at Newbury
Newbury will host the Class 3 Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup Conditions Stakes over a mile, two furlongs and six yards on Friday, 20th April. Taking part in the race that carries the £6,536 purse is the line-up of six three-year-old runners.
Besides Clean Bowled, every other entry of the race is up for their seasonal debut today.
The only entry who has struck a victory at Newbury is Roger Varian trained Ektihaam, Invincible Spirit’s three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Liscune. His career break was in the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing E B F Maiden Stakes (Division I) on 15th
July 2011 at Newbury over seven furlongs.
He won while riding with Richard Hills and had the final one and a half length under his charge. Following in close pursuit was the runner up of the race, Harvard N Yale. The 11/8 favourite of the race, Campanology, settled third in line behind the winner.
This was the first and the last time that Ektihaam raced at Newbury as his next two races were at Doncaster and Newmarket.
On 9th September, Ektihaam won the Frank Whittle Partnership Conditions Stakes at Doncaster over seven furlongs. The 8/15 favourite winner of the race was once again coupled with Richard Hills.
Saeed Bin Suroor trained Mizwaaj qualified as the runner up and Waseem Faris took on the third slot after the winner.
The three-year-old was on his way for the first ever hat trick of the season but the chance got overshadowed when he finished in the end in the Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes (Entire Colts & Fillies) on 8th October at Newmarket over seven furlongs.
Parish Hall won the race while the 15/8 favourite strode behind as the runner up. Settling third behind the winner was Most Improved.
The entries for the race today are bound to turn it competitive as there is hardly a three-year-old who has not posted a win through the very last race of their career. Clean Bowled has even accomplished a hat trick during the current season and has compromised
a bit on the performances at Kempton which might just have got him into the mood of dominating the race today.
