El Clasico: Jose Mourinho takes humiliating defeat on his Chin
Last night, Jose Mourinho took the heaviest defeat of his career as Pep Guardiola’s men gave a footballing lesson to Real Madrid. The 5-0 defeat was not only the first defeat for Mourinho since he has been in charge of Bernabeu,
but also the heaviest loss of his career.
After the match, Mourinho was brave enough to face the media although he could have asked one of his assistants to handle the criticism.
He said, “I've always said that Barcelona were the finished product and the work of many years," he said. "I've also said that Real Madrid, despite having played very well until today, are not a finished product and a lot is missing
from the team to be so."
He added, ” When you lose, when you concede four or five like today, don't go around crying. React with a desire to work, a desire to train, a desire to play the next game. The next game is Saturday but that's a shame. It should
be tomorrow."
After the hammering at Camp Nou, the players will be glad to have few days off before the next game. Experienced players like Xabi Alonso held their head down after the game as they walked off the pitch. There was no respite for
the players on the ground as they were outclassed in such a manner. Young arrivals, Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil had never experienced such atmosphere and it will be something new for the German World Cup stars.
When Mourinho arrived at the club, he made it clear that if he did not win La Liga or Champions League it would be nothing short of a disaster. However, after the 5-0 thrashing he will be scrutinized severely in the coming months.
Guardiola has achieved another milestone with the bashing to their bitter rivals. He became the only coach to have defeated Madrid in his first 5 meetings. His performance will only raise speculation about various clubs wanting
to sign him as his contract ends at the end of summer. It will be interesting to see if he extends his contract or not, but clubs are already lining up for his services. Chelsea are rumoured to be chasing the Spaniard and it is believed that their billionaire
owner Roman Abramovich is not happy with the state of things at the club currently.
It will be interesting to see the impact of Monday night’s match on both set of players. The Catalan giants have a trip to Osasuna, who still maintain an unbeaten record at home.
Madrid, on the other hand will entertain Valencia, who are a tough team to face after the humiliating defeat. It will be interesting to see how Madrid bounce back. Former Madrid players, Juan Mata and Roberto Soldado, who now play
for Valencia will have a point to prove against their old club.
Mourinho’s work is cut short as he prepares for this tough encounter and he needs to lift his team sooner rather than later.
