El Salvador Pro elevated to ASP 6-Star status – Surfing news
After appearing on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) North America calendar as a 3 and 4-Star event over the past two years, the El Salvador Pro has been upgraded to the ASP 6-Star status this year.
The event, which is scheduled to run at Punta Roca, El Salvador, from June 9 – 14, is sure to deliver an even heavier dose of thrilling action and exciting performances from the North American, as well as the International talent year.
The high-performance right-hand point-break, coupled with an increased prize purse and chance to collect an increased amount of coveted ASP ranking points will serve as both an opportunity and motivation for the surfers to push themselves hard at the upcoming
event.
ASP North America Tour Manager Brian Robbins has huge expectations of the upcoming ASP 6-Star event, especially with the young Latin American talent finally getting a chance to prove their mettle against international talent in the flawless waves of Punta
Roca.
“Over the last few years, we’ve really seen some relatively unknown talent standout at the newer events in Mexico and Central America and begin to make a name for themselves,” Robbins said. “With several Latinos building their profiles in the smaller ASP
events, the heightened 6-Star status in Punta Roca will really allow these up and coming surfers the opportunity to establish themselves on the ASP World Ranking alongside the rest of the already established global surfing communities.”
The executive manager of ASP North America Meg Bernardo is also excited about the elevation of the El Salvador Pro to 6-Star status, rightly considering as an opportunity for the emerging Latino talent, as well as the talent from across the globe to put
their skills on display in some of Central America’s finest waves.
There are plenty of opportunities for the surfers to earn ASP ranking points throughout the year, but the ASP North America schedule only has four events this year.
The first of these four events, Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico, unfolded in February, while the remaining three events, namely Los Cabos Open of Surf, Surf Open Acapulco and El Salvador Pro will unfold during the course of next two months.
