Elangeni Ranch edge past Newport, 7-6 in 2011 Spring Classic Cup: US Polo Update

Joey Casey scored four times and had an assist, as Elangeni Ranch powered a 7-6 victory over Newport in the first of the two consolation-matches of the 2011 Spring Classic Cup. The heated match between the two teams was played at the Grand Polo Club in Wellington,
city of Florida.
In the opening chukka, both the teams showed a good game by exchanging passes and marking it into the each others’ 50-yard line. However, it was Newport which opened the scoring in the last minutes of the period. Martin Adcock made a long run onto the field
and struck a powerful shot at the Elangeni Ranch goal. In a counter-strike, Diego Coscio of Elangeni Ranch converted a spot-shot and levelled the score at one-all at the end of the first half of play.
The second set of play completely belonged to Elangeni Ranch that managed a couple of goals, while holding Newport score-less in the period. Joey Casey marked two goals, getting one from the field while converted another penalty shot. The chukka ended with
Elangeni Ranch holding a two-goal lead, 3-1.
However, the game entered into an interesting phase, when Newport levelled the score after the three frames. Chris Nevins nailed a couple of goals to tie the knots at three-all.
The pace of the game continued to increase with every passing chukka, but the two teams failed to add any score in the fourth set of play. The defensemen from the two sides displayed outstanding game and denied all the strikes. The two teams went into the
second last round with a three-all dead-lock with them to the sidelines.
Newport and Elangeni Ranch exchanged a couple of goals in the seventh and half minute to take the score at five-all. Gene Goldstein and Hector Galindo scored one goal each from Newport while Juan Chavanne and Diego Coscio managed it for Elangeni Ranch. With
one chukka in hands, the two squads locked horns at 5-5.
Joey Casey scored a couple of goals at the start of the final set of play to put Elangeni Ranch ahead on the score-board. He did it through a field effort and a penalty conversion. In the response, Newport could only get a single score from Goldstein and
lost the consolation game by a solitary goal, 7-6.
Gene Goldstein was at his best on offence and as well on defence and was selected for MVP award. Estrella, the thirteen-year-old, was named as Best Playing Pony of the tournament.
