Elastics for braces?

Question

im getting them tommorow so if anyone has them tell me what to expect.

does it hurt or is it uncomfortablee ??

Elastics? So you've already got the braces then. It partially depends on how your braces are shaped. When I first got my braces, the elastics were fine, and pretty easy to use. When you first put them on, you can kinda feel the pull for about 30 secs and then you pretty much forget about it. Later on, when my wire was pulled out and then put back in, it was like the shape was all wrong.

My right elastic pulled off if I so much as pursed my lips or something. I wasn't used to this, because before I could even eat with them on. Now I forget to take my left one off when I eat sometimes and I swallow it because I don't really want to stick my hand in my mouth in public...

So in general, it's not really that uncomfortable, just a bit weird when you first get them. After a day or so (give or take) they don't bother you as much. Just remember to put them on your finger or something when you brush. I thought it was stupid and I thought I would remember them afterwards but.... whenever I did, I'd forget to put them back on.

I didn't mind them much. It feels weird at first, but you get used to it quick.

LoL, the worst part of braces is over (the first week of getting them). They feel very weird though! It will take a bit of getting used to, and some practice taking them on and off. But remember its very important to wear the elastics - your ortho is probably in the process of putting special bends into your archwires, to move teeth slightly, and the elastics work with these little bends - wearing the elastics either not enough, or not at all, or in the wrong place, will counteract the bends and you'll be in braces longer. So just persevere, make sure you have enough elastics on you (carry a packet wherever you are; they can snap sometimes when you laugh/eat) and you'll have a Hollywood smile before you know it!
