Elbow issue could damage Felix Hernandez's contract extension – MLB Update
Multiple reports are coming in the media that starting pitcher Felix Hernandez’s elbow issue could get him a serious damage reading his recent contract extension with the Seattle Mariners.
He recently pulled out of the World Baseball Classic due to elbow soreness while his potential approximately $175 million contract is still to be confirmed by the Seattle Mariners.
Both sides earlier agreed to a mutual understanding of seven-year contract, pending to physical, but now this deal requires a major hope from Hernandez’s team doctors who are somehow optimistic that he will recover soon and will be playing in the next season
for the Seattle Mariners.
“Let’s be realistic, When we get to where we want to go — and we hope we’re on our way — we’re going to have to have a staff ace. Felix is that. Any club that’s a good club, what are they looking for? A top-of-the-rotation guy. Well, guess what? We have
one,” Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik said earlier for Hernandez when the deal was finalized.
He also said, “I know he likes it here, and he looks around and sees a bunch of young kids and a minor league system that’s pretty good. He can see the vision, and he knows he’s going to be a part of this thing.”
Hernandez is playing in the Mariners since his arrival in the big league in 2005 and he has also been playing fine as well. Currently he carries good career ERA of 3.22 along with 98-76 win loss, 1487 strikeouts and 1.21 WHIP.
Last year, in 2012 Major League Baseball season, Hernandez also played wonderfully and achieved good and consistent results. He won many games for the Mariners and showed his valour. He managed to achieve 3.06 ERA along with 13-9 win loss, 223 strikeouts
and 1.14 WHIP.
Meanwhile, experts believe that Hernandez will able to get this contract done after his full recovery from the sore elbow. These experts also believe that he has been around in the Major League for quite some time now and knows how things are done in this
baseball league.
