Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sales figures are in, Saints Row: The Third comes with Saints Row 2
Two noteworthy stories from the hustling and bustling world of video games as the sales figures for the eagerly anticipated, dragon infested, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are in and THQ get into the Christmas spirit a bit early with Saints Row: The Third.
Starting things off with Skyrim and according to the latest reports, the game with dragons has done more than just a little well for itself. While it may not have had the same stellar level of success that Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may
have managed to achieve, it still did a fair bit of business.
Shipping seven million units in a game’s lifetime can be described as a success, but Skyrim managed to reach that figure in its opening five days. It is time for the Bettor.com calculator to come out now to give us an estimate as to the sales figure in dollars.
7-million units multiplied by the average price of the game ($60) and the total comes to around $420-million, which is not bad for five days worth of sales.
In fact, analysts predict that the game could very well managed to earns BP 450-million with its launch stock alone.
The majority of the sales for the game in the United Kingdom were on the PC, where Skyrim managed to outsell the likes of Sega’s Football Manager 2012 and Modern Warfare 3, which it should be pointed out, is no mean feat.
Responding to the news, the CEO of Bethesda Studio’s parent company, Robert Altman, expressed his gratitude to the fans that made it possible. “We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim. Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted
a very special game.”
According to Valve’s online distribution platform, Steam reported that more than 280,000 players played the game online within the first 24 hours following the game’s release. It turns out that the figure is a new record.
Moving on to Saints Row: The Third as its publisher THQ have announced that gamers in the United States, Canada and Mexico will be getting Saints Row 2 as a free download.
There is a slight catch however, as the game will only be available for a limited time period with the ending date reported to be on the 13t of February.
The downloadable predecessor to the game is also yet to go live and gamers will have to wait until THQ release Saints Row 2 on the respective online digital distribution platforms.
There has been no comment from the studio of whether or not Saints Row 2 will be available for download in Europe.
