Eleanor Simmonds clinches Women’s 400m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Eleanor Simmonds of Great Britain clinched gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle in S6 category on third day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 1.
Simmonds demonstrated her immaculate efforts in the distant freestyle event and proved her mettle for gold medal of the race in an improved world record pace.
With her unimaginable efforts, Simmonds remained one body length faster from her following swimmer as she touched the wall for gold medal in a time of 5 minutes and 19.17 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 1.01 seconds faster from Victoria Arlen of USA, who proved her eligibility for silver medal of the race by reporting a time of 5 minutes and 20.18 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Lingling Song of China, who stayed 13.55 seconds slower from upsetting her former finisher and clocked a time of 5 minutes and 33.73 seconds.
The Chinese veteran was chased by Mirjam de Koning-Peper of Netherlands, who stayed four and a half body lengths behind and hit the wall for fourth position by posting a time of 5 minutes and 38.06 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Emanuela Romano of Italy, who remained 6.30 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with a timing of 5 minutes and 44.36 seconds.
Romano was trailed by Vianney Trejo Delgadillo of Mexico, who stayed three body lengths away from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 5 minutes and 47.85 seconds.
Delgadillo enjoyed an advantage of almost 14 seconds over Natalie Jones of Great Britain, who completed her swim in seventh best place by clocking a time of 6 minutes and 02.02 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Doramitzi Gonzalez of Mexico, who stayed nearly half a minute behind and clocked a time of 6 minutes and 29.51 seconds.
In addition, Simmonds was extremely delighted with her title claiming effort in the discipline and articulated that she would train harder to continue the same in upcoming swimming events.
