Eleanor Simmonds earns Women’s 200m IM gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Eleanor Simmonds of Great Britain earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in SM6 category on fifth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Monday, September 3.
Simmonds won the hearts of aquatic crowd with her dominating form in the 200m event. The British player showed no leniency to her challengers and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall in a world record time.
With her persistent efforts, Simmonds enjoyed a lead of over 15 metres over her closest swimmer as she clocked a time of 3 minutes and 05.39 seconds for the title.
Her gold winning performance remained nearly nine seconds faster from Verena Schott of Germany, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 14.28 seconds.
Schott was chased by Natalie Jones of Great Britain, who was just 0.01 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall for third position by reporting an effort of 3 minutes and 14.29 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Oksana Khrul of Ukraine, who stayed almost three body lengths behind and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 17.10 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Fuying Jiang of China, who was 2.08 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 3 minutes and 19.18 seconds.
Similarly, Jiang was chased by Elizabeth Johnson of Great Britain, who stayed almost 6.50 seconds slower from her former finisher and clocked a time of 3 minutes and 25.64 seconds for sixth place.
Johnson remained 1.13 seconds faster from Anastasia Diodorova of Russia, who completed her race in seventh best place by producing a time of 3 minutes and 26.77 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was gained by Vianney Trejo Delgadillo of Mexico, who failed to upset any of her challengers and clocked a time of 3 minutes and 28.97 seconds.
Simmonds received massive appreciation from the audience for her notable form after the race.
