Question:

Electives for school?

I have Drama and Spanish for electives. I somehow did not receive a registration paper, so I didn't actually sign up for these. I'm on the shy end of the spectrum, and have a slight speech disorder. My mom thinks these classes would help me with both things. What do you think?

  1. i have to agree and disagree with your mom. Spanish is a great class to take! taking a language is required for a large number of colleges, and is often required to graduate high school. not to mention, spanish is a very common language, and is handy to know. it also is a great thing to put on a job application.

drama however, is going to be a harder class for you. it will help get you out of your shell, but it might take a while longer. in any event, you can always transfer out of drama and into a study hall.  but i say, give it a try. and that's advice coming from a shy person!

    good luck!

  2. I totally agree with your mom.  What classes do you want to take?  Taking classes that can help you are great, but it is also a good idea to take classes that you are iterested in, so that you will enjoy them, particiate in them, and earn good grades.

  3. Those are definitely two great classes that would help with any speech problems, and even help you come out of your shell a little bit more. Drama has all sorts of opportunities, with putting on shows/musicals/making speeches and learning how to act in front of large audiences. Spanish is also a good choice, as all Spanish classes have oral exercises. I have taken Spanish for 5 years and each year there are many group and class activities where you have to make a speech or talk with a partner or group. It all depends on what grabs your attention more: acting and larger audiences, or leaning another language while becoming more comfortable with yourself. The choice is yours, my friend. But remember, have fun with your whichever elective you choose! Good luck.
