Electric Bike?

Hello, I want to convert my mountain bike to electric for the least cost possible, but I don't want kits since they are expensive.

So, can anybody tell me what are the bare essentials I would need (please be specific- I know that I need a motor, but what KIND of motor) and generally how would I put the parts together?

I'd like it to go >20 mph. Thanks!

  1. make into a three wheeler ; that'll be a good starter for all of us

  2. use 150 watt 12 volt 2000-3000  rpm motor. fasten rubberwheel on axle, and make support structures on the back of the bike so, that the small wheel on axle (3-5 cm diameter, ask some RC store, they have that size of wheels plenty for sale) touches the rear wheel from up. consider putting some spring to bush the whole packet against the wheel. then, put lawn mover battery to front rack inside some canvas bag, switch to bar, and there you have it.

  3. Try this design:

There are a lot of websites out there that describe a plethora of ways, just do a Google search.
