Question:

Electric Dryer Trips Circuit Breaker?

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Will we be able to repair it ourselves or do we need to hire a professional?

The circuit only trips while the dryer is on, regardless of what else is on. That's why I think it is a problem with the dryer itself.

  1. dryers are nearly always on their own circuit, so the problem is with the dryer.

do not put in a bigger breaker unless you want a fire.

the problem is most likely the element. but the spin motor is also possible.

to find out, set it for air fluff/no heat. if it still trips, it's the motor. if not it's the element.

dryers are most inconvenient to work on.

  2. It's just the dryer.  You  should stop using it and get it fixed.  Unless you know how to troubleshoot electrical equipment with a volt/ohm meter.
