I've read instructions for installing a cord when there isn't already one installed, but I will be removing the 3 prong cord. I have also looked at the following diagram: http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=10&newsdesk_id=5

Is this the correct order of disconnecting and connecting wires?

1. leave the green wire from within the dryer connected to the dryer frame while I disconnect the red, black, and white.

2. Then disconnect the green from the frame and reattach it to itself (the middle/neutral).

3. Then attach the green from the new cord to the frame.

4. Then connect the white to the middle/ neutral

5. Then connect the red and black to the sides

If anyone knows please let me know if this is the safest way to do this. Thanks.

  2. The red and black are power. The white is the neutral. The green is the ground. It makes no differance what order you attach them, just make sure the power is off.

A little tip: after you connect your wires, wrap them with black electrical tape so the screws do not get loose.

  3. The safest way is to unplug the cord or turn off the breaker. That way order doesn't mater
