Electric Light Bulbs?

Do you get the same amount of light from four 25 watt light bulbs as you do from one 100 watt bulb? Specifically if I replaced my single living room lamp with a fancy four bulb affair do I need each bulb to be a quarter of the original to get the same amount of light (I don't want to have to wear sunglasses in the lounge!)

  1. You will get the same amount of power but not the same brightness.

for example, 15 watt bulbs burn with a very low brightness (and temperature of light)

6 or 7 of them will never look as bright even though the y deliver approx 100 watts

  2. A 25W bulb produces about 140 Lumens(measure of light ). A 100W bulb produces about 810Lumens. So your 4 bulbs will produce around 560Lumens verse 810 Lumens from the 100W. The difference is that the footprint will be different because the 4 bulbs are spaced apart and will reach a larger path than the single 100W. To the normal eye there will not be a noticeable difference, in fact it may look a little brighter. i don't think you will have to wear sunglasses but you may want to think about putting that fixture on a dimmer. There are great benefits to that. Mood control and energy reduction when you don't need full brightness. Also you will extend the life of the bulbs by not burning them at full range.

  3. yes you pretty much get the same amount of light maybe slightly more but not noticeable,it adds up to the same amount of candle power and distributes a little more evenly, but  pretty much the same amount of radiance  i am an electrician for 20+ years
