  1. Yes as a ex utility employee I can tell you that if you dont go with their standard billing procedure (mine is a 2 month cycle) then they will charge you extra for the prossesing and reading of your meter.  Most of the time it doesnt come to a big deal but if it cost them more to do it they will pass it on to you.  Kinda crappy but they dont want to charge the people that do the normal billing for the people that want the extra service.

  2. Hiya !

Yes - you will be paying more for using a pre-payment meter.  There was one in here when I moved in - I had it changed within 5 days !

Now I pay monthly by direct debit - much easier as I kinda forget about it (so long as I make sure there's enough in the bank to cover the payments lol !)

Incidentally - not only do you pay a higher unit rate on a key meter - you ALSO pay a weekly fee - which is why you don't get ALL the credit you apply (the meter automatically deducts the weekly fee)

  3. yes you get a cheaper rate and if you use dd you get an additional discount. you dont say what electricity company you are with but i am with eon and they changed my meter for free and added the credit that was still on my last prepaid card onto my first bill

  4. the utility company can provide you with that answer. normally by an enquiry but it may? be on their web site and terms  and conditions etc.

overall prepayment  normally costs  slightly more using a 'key' due to processing  costs etc.

cheapest was is  upfront  a year in advance ( very few can afford that) next we have  normal metering which is quarterly  in arrears.

  5. Yes you do, and they are a pain in the bum.

  6. Yes you will be paying more.

Once you have a pre pay meter some companies won't then change your payment type.

try uswitch.com to get any idea of costings

  7. Oh yes quarterly by direct  debit is the cheapest
