Electric breaker issue...?

Hey, I need to reset a breaker that blew when my wife was vaccuuming, but every time i try to switch it on there is no tension. Could there still be something tripping my breaker, or do I need to fix the breaker itself? I can't find anything that might be shorting out the outlet. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and I did turn the breaker to the "off" position too, but still wasn't able to get it to catch in the "on" position.

  1. Electric breakers do not last forever. If that particular circuit is used heavily, it can wear out the breaker. It happened to me for the breaker for my AC. What I would do first is replace the circuit breaker and if it makes no difference, you must have a bad connection from the breaker to the outlet. Make sure you have a good electrical connection to the outlet. Sometimes the outlet get worn and do not make a good connection so I would also replace the outlet.

  2. It has burned out. Please do not try to fix this yourself. Get an electrician to fix it.

  3. sounds like a bad breaker.  replace with EXACTLY the same type and rating.

  4. If whatever caused the breaker to trip, if it is still plugged in, the breaker will not reset.

  5. Usually if a breaker trips a lot of times...the internal parts begin to wear or break down...when that happen they will not re-set. It will be best to go ahead and change that breaker out with a new one.

I would go one step up....if it was a 15amp...go to a 20 amp. I wouldn't go any higher, so it will help avoid any electrical fires or other hazards.

  6. Turn it all the way off first then switch on.If you do replace it go with same size

  7. to reset a breaker push it off then back on ,if it won't ,go around and turn off stuff,if that doesn't work check the outlet where you plugged the vacuum ,it might have to be replaced...........tom
