  1. Most such vehicles have electric motors that propel the vehicle, however they do have a lot of batteries and a small generator to charge the batteries thereby using a lot less fuel than a conventional vehicle.

  2. Some cities have buses that run off wires strung above the roadway.  The buses have long, spring loaded armatures that reach up to contact the wires and receive energy.

There are also some cities running hybrid buses that have elctric motors powered by batteries that are recharged via an onboard engine.

  3. Don't worry about it.

Big oil and their buddies in Detroit would rather you didn't even know about electric vehicles.   Why would you want to understand them?

DO NOT access websites like Tesla, Zap, or EV World.

Your knowledge could lead to "turncoat" action.  You might drive the price of oil down, and make the big auto manufacturers retool to make cleaner running all electric cars.

  4. Electric vehicles require higher voltage than normal appliances, so they cannot be plugged into normal outlets.  There are electric vehicle charging stations in some places, and if a bus system has electric buses then they probably have their own generators and plugs at their busyards.
