Electric car,to buy or not to buy?

as everyone i don't want to spent more on petrol,pay congestion charges and i want to buy an electric car.Does anyone know more info about this car.Is it worth it to buy? Maybe someone had bad experience? Thanks

ya hes got a point, you cant take em to any garage, they would have to go to the dealer to be fixed, right now id get a car thats good on gas or maybe a hybrid?

As oil is on its way to $500 per barrel, it makes sense.

Don't go for it, they arnt widely used enough yet so can not go to far, and it would be hard to get a refill if you ever went on a trip away. Also if it ever broke down because they are still quite uncommon the cost for the repair is huge! If i were you i would buy a smaller petrol car and drive it less and at slower speeds.

Electric cars are more harmful to the environment than petrol ones if you look at the production. Also it would take 7 years to recouperate the cost of replacement. So if you can make your driving more efficient then it is not worth paying the extra outlay.

Electric cars run on battery cells which will need replacing several times in their lives and at a cost of £700-£1000 to do so, is this really worth it? If you are very serious then the best two are the Toyota Prius 1.5 Hybrid, and the Honda Civic 1.4 IMA. the drive close to regular cars and have performance similar to regular cars too.

At the end of the day people make choices on what they want from a car not what others say so my advice to you is to go test both, then drive yours again. Add the costs up and then see if in 5/10/15 years time if you will be any better off?

If you have a car, keep it and use it for long travels.

Buy an electric car for shopping and to drive within your community/city.

Pros on the electric car :

Save $$$

Less noise

No or less oil

Help improve our environment

Promote "greeness"

Encourage higher production of electric vehicles

Cons:

Cannot go too far.
