  1. All batteries should be recycled.

  2. Most batteries contain some pretty nasty substances but the problem is scale- car batteries contain several thousand times the amount of chemicals that you would find in household batteries.

  3. Car batteries contain a lot of valuable materials that can be recovered through recycling. Some car companies (and more in the future) will actually buy your used battery pack as it has a lot of value.

  4. Hello Zack B,

All batteries need to be disposed of properly,  We really don't want to batter the environment.  Electric cars use several kinds of batteries---some have lead, some heavy metals, and some have the really-really NASTY stuff.  Part of that is recyclable, and part goes to the landfill.   Would you dump toxic waste in  your living room?   The Earth is our living room, and would feed every one on her if MAN would just let her.  That is why she was created.  We are bound to do some damage, and can't really help it, but we should keep it down as much as we can.  Hope this helps.

  5. Nothing different from any other lead-acid (or other type) deep-cycle battery that is used for boats, lift trucks in warehouses, or golf carts. All those batteries are required, usually by law, to be recycled. Because of the lead (a neurotoxin toxic chemical) in these batteries. The hydrochloric acid is also dangerous.

Again, to be perfectly clear, electric car batteries are no different from any other kind of battery in use elsewhere.

In addition, certain kinds of electric car batteries can even be restored back to original condition. In other words, "dead" batteries can be brought back to life.
