Question:

Electric circuit?

I have unfinished basement and it has the regular outlet but I am trying to install an oven. I understand that I might need to add a new circuit ( perhaps more powerful) and I was wondering how much that might cost if I hire a professional.

  1. With that much distance the NEC says you need a sub-panel of some kind if you are more than 15ft or outside of line of sight from the load center.

Estimate 30ft of 8/2 wire rated for at least 65 degrees C at ~$2.00/ft.  $150.00 for the sub-panel. About $50.00 for the breaker(s) and $3-500.00 for the labor (possibly more depending on what state and city you are in and if the electrician has to do any wall penetrations).

This is all also assuming you have enough carrying capacity on your current load center for the added circuit. If your box has a full load calculation already you may need to sell a kidney to get that upgraded.

  2. Materials: breaker, wire, EMT, box, outlet, etc. $100

    Time 2hrs @ $50.00/hr for an electrician = $100

Total $200 this is only an estimate but parts should be under $100 and depending on where you live the labor part can vary. Get a couple of estimates.

  3. It kinda depends on how far it is from the breaker box.
