Question:

Electric engine in car?

I was wondering how powerfull of an electric engine would be needed to power a small car (size of older hatchback civic or so) so that it could go highway speeds (at least 90km/h or 55mph). Would a transmission be needed/recomended?

  1. I ran across an article last week where a man installed an electric motor into his car using the same transmission and maintaining the same type of speeds.

I forgot to bookmark the page, but let me see if I can find it.

  2. speed and performance will depend on weight of vehicle, battery voltage, and of course type of motor and also how the motor controller is set up. check out the sites provided. I converted a full size street motorcycle to electric. I also included a small engine and alternator for anytime anywhere battery charging.
