Electric guitar effects, what should i get?

Question

right i know that guitar effects can be housed in effects pedals, guitar amplifiers, guitar amplifier simulation software, and rackmount preamplifiers or processors, but which one do you people is the best, i want something that i could modify the effect to make the sound anyway i want, does anything like that exist?

what do you recomend? and what good product would be the best?

Well, it really depends on whether you're a studio musician, a live performer, or a teenager just learning how to play.

I'm guessing you're the latter, so just get the Line6 POD.
