Whats the types of gauges and how do they help your guitar playing. I like to play metal and lots of solos so what would be good strings to use. And if you have a link to a video that would be perfect

  1. If you like to play metal solos and what not..i would go with medium gauges. Light gauges might be too thin for that style  and more than likely break too easily, because the style usually involves alot of "double picking", or for those of you who arent guitarists, really fast guitar strokes.

If you want a "heavier sound" i'd go with the heavier gauges, the usually don't break very easily but some can be a little bit harder to play with. Personally, i use mediums. I don't play metal but i find that they aren't too light and they arent too hard to play with.

also you may want to look at what picks your using. Light picks usually make a tiny "click" sound when you play with them and its hard to double pick with them..i would definatly go with medium.

    Hope that helps

  2. The heavier the gauge, the deeper and louder the strings sound when playing. Heavy gauge ( 0.014 - 0.059) are for deep heavy tones, but make sure you have a guitar that can support the strings because if you don't you can break the guitar. Most factory guitars are strung with light gauge (0.012 - 0.054).

For metal and heavier music, try using medium to heavy gauge strings [Medium gauge is around 0.013 - 0.056]
